We read the story Even Monsters Need Haircuts, then we created these fun Frankensteins from Life in First Grade. Check out Ms. Leslie Ann's site, http://lifeinfirstgrade1.blogspot.com/, for the free patterns and other great ideas!
We also drew and watercolored monsters. If I were to do this again, I'm not sure that I would go with size 11x17 paper again, as it was pretty time consuming to complete the watercoloring. Very cute turnout though...
Finally, we created Monster Glyphs. The Monter Glyph and the watercoloring ideas both come courtesy of Deanna Jump. Here are some of our monster glyphs... I think they turned out adorable.
The patterns for the monster glyph activity are in Deanna's Back-to-School-Math-and-Literacy-Fun unit on Teacher's Pay Teacher's. I also used many activities from Mrs. Lee's Monster unit. We had a lot of fun with monsters!
